All About Guppies!

Mike has been raising guppies for the last 52 years in the US  and since 1947 as a youth in Sri Lanka.  In Mike’s early days in Sri Lanka, where he was a Pioneer Diver and Spearfisher.  Mike is a life member of the Pan Pacific Guppy Association and COAST Fish Club!

For the last few years, with the water shortage, he has reduced his tanks and has specialized in only certain colors of guppies in the National shows.  There he has consistently won National trophies particularly in the yellow and gold classes.Mike Khalid is a long-time guppy breeder, best known for his award winning Yellow Guppies.   His yellow guppies are also known as the Micariff, a breed that originated in his native land, Sri Lanka, named for a combination of the breed developers’ names.  Mike Khalid was the first to introduce the yellow guppy, known as the Micariff, to the international scene at the 1994 IFGA show. He has since won numerous awards and is excited to be able to share all he has learned about guppy breeding.  He  recently counted a total of 242 tanks ranging in size from 1/2 gallon to 40 gallon flats in his fish house.

Mike says, "From my childhood days in Sri Lanka, guppies captured my imagination and sparked my interest in science and genetics.  I’ve bred and shown guppies for over 40 years, and have been honored to receive much recognition for my work.   I  enjoyed sharing what has been learned about the hobby with others, and look forward to sharing it with you here, as well."

In Mike’s professional life, he owns and operates AM Direct Consulting and Outreach, which has provided printing and mailing services, including direct mail advertising,  to the San Fernando Valley and surrounding areas of Los Angeles County for over 30 years.
